Weeeeeeeeeee Sundays are so much fun this year! =)
Made a lot of deep runs this Sunday, and if I'd played my best poker I may have been able to lucksack an even bigger profit than I ended up making.
However, if I could profit $22,579.18 every Sunday I'd be headed for retirement before I was 30, so I still have to say it was a good day.
My first important run was in the FTOPS heads-up event. In fact, until the session was over I was under the impression that it was my first cash!! Didn't even know I squeezed out the ole min-cash in the Star $109. lol
I limited my tables for the day just so that I'd be able to give the heads-up event its proper amount of attention. I played very well and managed to cruise through my first few matches, which were mostly against losing players since I happened to be getting great draws.
Then I managed to beat someone who has become a friendly nemesis of mine, "hitthehole." He's a British tournament regular who plays very well, but just wins every pot against me no matter how he gets it in usually.
I never complain about it and always wish him luck, so one day he just couldn't help but mention in chat how incredibly lucky he is against me and that he's surprised I never say anything about it.
Needless to say, he wasn't the player I wanted to see in the second match from the bubble! He ran a huge triple barrel bluff on me that I was just strong enough to be able to pick off, and I managed to get into the money and down to the round of 64.
Then it happened. I ran into a bigger lucksack than myself! I grinded the guy down repeatedly, but couldn't overcome the two pots he won that were each 80%+ of the chips in play. The first time he got it in with a flush draw on the turn, the second he got it in with one overcard and a flush draw. He binked both times, and I busted in 45th.
I made a run in the Sunday 500 as well, which is easily one of my favorite online tournaments. I have no clue what came over me, but I just decided I was going to spazz out and hit the spew button after I got to over 250k chips in this tournament. I wasn't even really on tilt either, I guess the chemicals in my brain just became unbalanced for a little while. =)
I somehow managed to make the final table of one of the toughest tournaments online -- the $215+rebuys -- while not giving it nearly the attention it deserved thanks to the FTOPS $322 and heads up events. I ran pretty well in it until losing with J♦ J♣ to K♣#9 all in pre-flop five-handed and being left on the short stack. I grinded out the short stack a couple more spots before losing with K♦ J♠ to A♠ 5♣.
I also made a deep run in the huge FTOPS $322 event with 4,684 entrants that paid over $250k to first. I was one of the top ten in chips for a while down the stretch and lost of a few pots with about 50 players left. Then I got in a pretty gross spot where I should have made a relatively easy fold, but decided that I was too stubborn and wanted to hero call all in for over 400k chips on the river and lose a pot of somewhere around 1.3 million chips if I recall correctly.
It wasn't the worst call I've ever made (something I'm not proud to report lol), but with 45 players left in a field that soft I should have just grinded it out instead of hero calling it off and trying to have all the chips. Sometimes it's hard to play your best poker 14.5 hours into your session, but that's still no excuse.
Oh well, life is still good though. There are always more tournaments to win. =D
