I’m sure you are all wondering, what do you mean Jason? Well I’m about to tell you, so hold your horses!
I’m going to elaborate as much as possible, but basically I’m going to try to share the experiences that I’ve had and the emotions I have been feeling since my last blogpost.
In my last post, I mentioned how I had bubbled the last 2 live tournaments that I played and that I wanted to do really well in the next one.
This tourney happened to be the 1500 plo rebuy at the bellagio. It drew 43 players, a good chunk of whom were willing to gamble it up enough to create a first place prize of 110k.
I played really well the whole tournament, but ended up busting in 9th place, 5 got paid. I then went out with a couple friends who were in town for the night.
I had an absolutely insane time partying, and ended up really hungover the next day. I somehow made it over to Bellagio to play the 540 and busted really quick. Afterwards, I went back to my friend Dan’s house to hang out for the night.
I had a great time hanging out, but somehow was still hungover when I tried to go to sleep around 4 am. I basically laid in bed for three hours without falling asleep and finally said, “screw it, I’m just going to stay up until I can’t anymore.”
I play online for a little while, 16 tabling 2/4 and 3/6 FIXED LIMIT HOLDEM. Back to my roots… I used to play these games all the time when I first started.
I basically just wanted to see if I could beat the games, how easy the games seemed, and if I play any differently now then I used to.
The results are irrelevant, but I entertained myself for a few hours and then quit playing around 10 am. I wasn’t tired really at this point and decided I will still go ahead and play the 1k rebuy event at Bellagio.
In this tournament, I played really well on auto pilot for most of it, prop betting against Justin Young for most of the tournament, which is always fun!
I play for 15 straight hours and we stop play in the money with 16 players left. I finally fell asleep after being awake for 41 straight hours. I was basically out of my mind near the end of the night.
I wake up after 6 hours of sleep and head over to Bellagio again now for day 2. One of my horses is also still in the tournament, so I’m feeling like we have a good chance of scooping some loot. Brent, my horse, busts really early to get 15th. I make a couple questionable shoves and just straight GET THERE!!!
The structure of these Bellagio prelims are the absolute worst by the way. No 500/1k, 1200 2400, and 2500 5k. Some of the worst structured tournaments I have ever seen to be honest. The blinds triple in 3 levels right around the money and cut the average stack into thirds in under 3 hours.
Long story short, I run amazing to get a good stack going to the final table, and then run like piss at the final table. I lose AK vs A4 vs Scott Clements aka one of the nicest guys in poker … and then TT vs AK for the rest of my stack to get back to a nice pile if I were to win.
I bust around 4:15 PM, and decide to cab it back to Dan’s house to play online.
I play the 7 biggest MTTs left for the day on Stars, and just absolute crush it. I get my money in good almost every time and run not so good.
I cash 2, bubble one I think, and go semi deep in the other ones. I leave the house with Allen and Phildo both deep in 2 huge tourneys, and hope they can scoop for me. We head over to Brent’s house for a night of food and drinking.
We have a great time, and I end up crashing around 5 am. I wake up at 9 am and can’t go back to sleep. I am doing things on the computer at a ridiculous fast rate and don’t even realize that something is wrong with me.
I realize I am shaking a bit and decide to get a shower and try to come down. I am going absolutely insane in the shower, I start dancing all crazy, it was like I was watching myself do these ridiculous things.
Let me just make something clear, I do not do drugs. I've never even tried a single drug ever in my life, and I don’t plan on it either. However, my friends thought I was on drugs with the way I was acting.
I figure out that I’m still going to play the 1k and see if I can still play well, even when my mind is not all there.
I play absolutely amazing allllllll day yesterday, running good but playing better. I am up to about 110k at 600/1200 which is a top 3 stack for sure with 56 players left from the 234 that started.
I get all my money in vs another big stack who I have covered with TT on a T high flop vs Aces for a 200k pot against a total pittzster who actually ended up being a cheater… long story.
I am left with 22k and am not tilted or mad at all. I knew I was going to play the rest of my chips perfectly and wanted to see if I could get some action on myself to win the tournament. I booked a bet vs Allie Prescott getting laid 30 to 1.
I then go on a heater to run my stack back up, mostly crushing souls but also running good. I am chipleader with 12 left and piss it all away. I call off vs Yevgeney to try and bust him in a debatable spot and then double him up again getting it in bad.
The blinds go up again and I get the rest of my chips in the middle in a standard spot with 40% equity pre and lose. 12th place UGH. I am playing the best poker of my life right now, going deep in everything I play and feeling great.
I wasn’t planning on it, but I think I’m going to go play the 5k horse tourney which starts really soon.
For those of you who didn’t see it, ESPN came out with a top 10 best poker players. They had me on the list at #6 which was quite an honor.
Yevgeny was ranked #10 which I find absurd, the kid should be #4 maybe #3. He is the best tournament poker player in the world, bar none.
