In May of 2006, I became, somewhere in the neighborhood of, the 75th person to achieve Supernova status on Pokerstars. I had earned 100k vpps in that calendar year.
In December of 2006, Pokerstars announced changes they were making to the VIP program. There would be a new level, Supernova Elite. You only had to earn a measly one million VPPs to achieve this status.
On December 20th 2007, I became the sixteenth player to ever reach Supernova Elite on Pokerstars. In the last 11 remaining days of that year following right after me, 23 more players reached SE.
It was harder back then to get Supernova Elite - not only was the VPP accumulation scale different, the maximum cash tables you could play at once was only 12 for the first 8 or so months of 2007.
I decided in 2008 I was going to try and maintain my Supernova Elite status for as long as I could, but not try to get it again. I was burnt out from playing the all-day, all-night sessions and just the grind of it all.
I needed to earn 50k VPPs each month and could only miss one month before I would drop back down to only being Supernova. On April 1st, 2008, I lost my Supernova Elite status. I hadn't managed to earn 50k VPPs in the month of January or in March. Ironically, April 1st was the same day that EPT San Remo started. SHIP IT!
Although I was no longer Supernova Elite, I had already amassed over 100k VPPs, securing my status as a Supernova until February of 2009.
When 2009 started, I knew that to remain a Supernova, I would have to earn 10k VPPs each month until I got to 100k VPPs, and could only miss one month. I used my one month early, barely playing online at all in February, when I was at the LAPC playing live almost every day.
I was able to maintain my Supernova status in March, April, and May. When June rolled around, I knew that this was probably going to be the end of my longstanding status as a Supernova on Pokerstars. I was planning on playing almost every day at the WSOP and had no plans of playing online really.
On July 1st, 2009, I lost my Supernova status and became, you guessed it, a Bronzestar!!! If you don't know what a bronzestar is, you should go to Pokerstars and make an account - you will then be a Bronzestar! Lol! I decided I was going to start grinding online as soon as I got home from Vegas and figured I should probably try to get back to Supernova status.
It took me exactly one month to get to 100k VPPs for the year. I think I earned around 40k VPPs in the 20 days of July that I was home. It feels good to be Supernova again! Not that it actually means anything uber significant, but I mean I was Supernova for 38 months straight!
I'm really amped about playing online MTTs today. I'm going to play a full schedule for the second straight Sunday. I think this could be the first time I ever play back to back Sundays of all the MTTs!
Quite an accomplishment for me! Last Sunday went fairly well, although I bubbled like 5 tourneys. I min-cashed the Sunday Million, which brings my lifetime cash totals in that tourney to about 3 for 87. Lol, I hate that tourney! I made two final tables - 2nd in the 55 rebuy PLO (should have won, sigh) and 8th in the 109 2R1A.
I'm hoping to have another successful Sunday and ship something big!
