Where has the month gone?! It feels like November just started when, in reality, it’s actually almost over.
It’s amazing how quickly time can fly when you have too many things to do!
The VPP grind continues. I’m on track for the month so far, having earned 13.6k VPPs to date.
I need 21.5k more to make Supernova, which means that I probably need to play around 15 more days of poker.Last time I wrote about the importance of game selection. I thought I might have to drop down in stakes to avoid regs as much as possible, but it hasn’t been as much of a problem as I thought (so far).
In fact, I’ve been able to add a handful of $100s to my schedule every day.
Game selection is everything. I am astounded by the number of regs that obviously do not game select at all.
Yes it is a pain in the ass, but it both increases your ROI and decreases your variance. I really think that most poker players underestimate the importance of game selection.
I haven’t talked about profits at all this month so far! Here are the numbers:

Net result: +$1,905.32
I’ve played only one MTT so far this month, so I didn’t bother to include it.
I went on a little downswing but managed to mostly recover. My ROI for the month is lower than it should be so far, but I can’t complain about a profit.
It’s pretty crazy how boring SnG results are compared to MTT results. Gone are the weeks of losing $4k or winning $10k.
It’s more boring to blog about for sure, but my life can live without that kind of excitement :P
I sometimes miss the rush of going deep in a big MTT and having friends rail my final tables, but trading that stuff for a lower stress level is worth it for me.
It’s not to say that SnGs aren’t frustrating sometimes. I will admit that I have tilted just as hard playing SnGs as I have playing MTTs!
I think a lot of it had to do with my expectations, however.
When I started playing SnGs, I had this ridiculous vision in my head that it would be variance-free poker and that I would start winning almost every day.
I didn’t realize that losing 40+ buy-ins in a day is completely standard, which caused me to become upset and confused when these days happened.
I hope that I will soon get used to SnG swings and understand when a losing day is nothing to be concerned about.
