Finally here with an update! It’s been a very busy month, mostly because I decided to make a volume prop bet with someone. The original purpose of the bet was to ensure that I would play a suitable number of hours per week, but I think I made my goal a bit too ambitious.
As a result, I’ve pretty much had no life because if I take too many days off, I’ll lose my bet.
I’m really looking forward to the end of September! Not only because I want a day off, but also because I am running terribly this month. Since I last wrote, I’ve played 13 or so days of online poker. Here’s how they ended up:
# MTTs: 20
# SnGs: 980
Hours: 88
Net result: +$20.27
No I do not enjoy earning $0.23 per hour, thank you very much :P
In those hours I made a profit of $2,043.87 playing SnGs but I lost $2,023.60 playing MTTs. The losses playing MTTs are pretty standard so I’m not too concerned about that. In that volume, though, I should usually expect to make $1,000 to $2,000 more playing SnGs.
A big problem I have is the desire to always know the results of all the hands that I’m playing. For example, if I go all-in at one of my tables, I HAVE to know whether or not I won the hand and who called me with what.
This is a very bad habit. For one, it makes it much more difficult to play lots of tables. Secondly, who the f cares? It doesn’t matter whether I won the hand. And while it MIGHT help to know what people are calling me with, I would probably make more money per hour by not bothering to look and just adding more tables.
I probably developed this habit because I tiled when I first learned to multi table. Tiling allows you to see the results of every hand and I got used to it. I really need to try to break this habit, though, because it only serves to tilt me more when I’m running badly.
So far this month I’ve played 1,237 SnGs, so I have 263 more to go to reach my goal of 1,500. I’ve earned over 20k VPPs so far in September, so Supernova is well on pace. My volume per month the rest of the year will be less, but I should still hit Supernova before Christmas. I definitely don’t want to be one of the many grinders on PokerStars on New Year’s Eve.
The last thing I want to say this entry is that I’m really sorry to the people who have taken the time to email me but haven’t gotten replies. I’ve completely neglected my poker email account the last couple of months, but I’ll start checking it more regularly. For anyone interested, I can be reached at courtneygeepoker at gmail.com.
